Old Town Temenos Sacred Spaces

Home health consultations to help create beautiful trauma informed supportive spaces in your home are offered. Color, texture, and materials are all relevant to how you feel in a space and I can help you in designing a space in your home that supports your well being and helps in your healing journey.

What is a sacred space?

Sacred spaces are designed with the intention of placing each item in the space for the purpose of healing. The goal is to support your nervous system to feel more safe, calm and relaxed. In the latest scientific research of polyvagal theory developed by Stephen Porges, we now have a greater understanding of how the ocular nerves (your eyes) are connected to the nervous system. We can use our current knowledge to engage your eyes in a way that connects you to the vagus nerve and a parasympathetic response, one promoting rest and relaxation.

Together we can create a space in your home to serve this higher purpose.

How will we begin? We will begin with a meeting where we engage in a therapeutic encounter and guided visualization with bilateral support. During the visualization, you will tap into your own imagination. In your imagination, one of your greatest resources, you know what feels most peaceful and calm. You will conjure an imaginal realm that promotes feelings of peace, calm and relaxation. Where might this place be? After this initial session, together we will create this space. Below I’ve listed considerations for creating the space. Any or all of the following can be combined to create a space uniquely designed for your healing.

  • Color: What colors feel peaceful and calm to you?

  • Texture: What materials and textures comfort and soothe your being?

  • Grounding: What materials can you hold while you breathe and ground?
-Rock, stones, minerals, gems and sculpture may be selected for this.
  • Allies: animal totems, divine beings, gods and goddesses, human friends/inspiration, plants and the natural world can be chosen and brought into the space.

  • Artwork: images chosen to engage the imagination and connection to your inner calm.

  • Scent: scent is connected to memory. Can we find scents that soothe and relax you?
-scent may be in the form of a diffuser, plants, or a candle.
  • Elements: considering earthy materials, water, fire (candle), metal, wood

  • Sounds and music: bilateral music and other sounds can be selected to help support clam in your body, mind and spirit.

  • Words: words to inspire you.
